歌会始の選者と東京大空襲とバグダッド燃ゆ

先週末3月10日（土）、｢戦災資料センター｣開設5周年とセンターの増築工事完了を記念した「東京大空襲を語り継ぐつどい」が、参列者600余名を迎え、東京江東区亀戸駅前のカメリアホールで開催された。

戦災資料センターの館長で作家の早乙女勝元さんは、挨拶の中で、同センターの来館者が4万3000人を超え、修学旅行などで訪れる人も増えたこと、最近、東京大空襲と関東大震災を混同している若者が目立ち、かたや人災かたや天災なのに、若者にとって平和は空気のようなものになっているとの所感を述べた。

講演者の作家・井上ひさしさんは、「戦災資料センター｣は、本来は国立か都立で運営しなければならない性質のものだが、国や都はそういうことをしない」などと語り、世界の非核兵器地帯や無防備都市の現状を報告した。

ちなみに、今年度の第29回現代短歌大賞受賞作品である岡野弘彦氏の歌集『バクダッド燃ゆ』は、この東京大空襲は深く関わり合っている。なお、現代短歌大賞は、前年の１年間に刊行された歌集・歌書等を対象として、その最も優れた著作を本協会が顕彰するもの、。第29回は岡野弘彦歌集『バクダッド燃ゆ』(砂子屋書房刊)並びに過去の全業績が対象となった。

岡野さんは、そのとき20歳、大阪の部隊から、軍用列車で東京へ向かい、夜、品川から山手線に入って大塚と巣鴨の間あたりでＢ29の猛爆撃に遭い、焼夷弾が空全体を覆い尽くすように連なって落ちてくる地上は、一面火の海。ドラム缶が火を噴いて飛んでくる。老若男女、ただ逃げまどうだけ、阿鼻叫喚の闇の中、岡野さんは、爛漫の桜が見ていた。

焼けこげて　桜の下にならび臥す　骸（むくろ）のにほふまでを見とげつ

岡野さんの脳裏に刻まれた東京の大空襲は、はるか遠くアラビアンナイトの国の戦火とだぶるのである。イラク戦争がぼっ発したのは、2003年3月、日本の桜の季節、岡野さんは、30年住み慣れた伊豆を離れ、東京に移り住んだばかりで、奥さんが、脳梗塞に倒れ、病院で看病が続く。自宅に戻ると、夜通しバグダットから戦況が伝えられる。苦衷は深まるばかり。

ふたたびの戦火に　命つひえゆく　イラクの民を妻に語らず
今生に　幾たびのこる桜ならむ。思ひしづめて　家ごもりをり
